The Course

This BA programme in Communication and Media Sciences offers a broad-based approach to the methods, channels and institutions of social and mass communication and provides the students with an educational profile that combines in-depth intellectual and practical communicational competence with a solid knowledge in social sciences. Specialist options are business communication and media informatics. Students learn how to work with the basic aspects and principles connected to communication and media, how to form and express their thoughts effectively in accordance with the basic theories and conceptions of the social communication and how to communicate information, arguements and analyses to professional and non-professional audience by the use of the modern tools of communicational technologies.

Future Prospects:

Communication is the global challenge of the third millenium. The appreciation of communication and media experts means that the prospects of students after graduation are excellent and include a wide-range of professions: editor or director of radio and television programs, journalist, online journalist, web designer, anchorperson of a television or radio program, media technician, manager of public relations, marketing and marketing communication department, manager or coworker of a communication agency, etc.

 

Content and Structure:

During their studies candidates are required to take up to 180 credits, each semester totaling 30 credits.

There are six core modules in each of the first three semesters of the programme.

The core modules in the first year are taken mainly from the field of social sciences, communication skills and communicational theoretical knowledge.

Second year modules introduce the regulation and the specific fields of communication, and the start of the Electives and modules of specialisation extend both the theoretical and practical knowledge of the students in relation to the major chosen by them: business communication or media informatics.

In the final two semesters students are required to acquire the knowledge of the modules in their chosen specialisation and to accomplish their final degree projects and write their thesis.

 

Preparatory Course:

The preparatory course is designed to help students to develop and strengthen their skills necessary to successfully pursue degree studies at our college in English. The program lasts two semesters (1 academic year) and offers intensive training in language studies (standard and professional English, Hungarian), intercultural competencies and communication, professional preparatory courses.

Core modules: English language, Listening comprehension, Hungarian language, Basics of ESP in Management, Intercultural Communication, Project Management, Preparatory Courses in Informatics, Management and Communication.

Advancement to the Bachelor Course

All those students who fulfill the requirements (e.g. acquire the credit points) of the preparatory course can automatically begin their first semester of communication and media studies at the College of Dunaújváros.

 

Communication and Media Sciences BA

 

Year One

Core Modules: Communication Skill Development I., Man and Society I., Public Administration and Business Law, History of Society, Man and Society II., Introduction to Social Science Researches, Social History of Communication and Media, Social Communication, Significant Functions and Interpretations of Communication, Significant Field and Tools of Communication, Informatics, Communication Skill Development II.

 

Year Two

Core Modules: Communication and Media Dynamics, Man and Society III., Professional Language, Regulation of Communication and Media, Communication Difficulties, Specific Fields of Media and Communication.

Option modules/ Electives, Modules of Specializations (Business Communication and Media Informatics)/ Majors.

 

Year Three

Option modules/ Electives, Modules of Specializations (Business Communication and Media Informatics)/ Majors, Thesis Project.
